Veeam – Changing default log location

This is something that has bugged me for a while. Though I absolutely love what Veeam brings to the table as far as a backup product is concerned, one issue I have observed in a (fairly) large environment was with the default log file location – you guessed it – C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup

There were times when I’ve witnessed over 40GB of log files filling up the C: drive. It becomes a chore to keep an eye on it and weed them down when needed. Though there were previously options to reduce the amount of log files kept, we have needed them for support purposes in the past so I was reluctant to trim them to tight.

Along comes v7 to the rescue with (yet another) new feature to set the log file location via the registry
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication\LogDirectory (STRING)

Here’s a link to the KB with the all the info

I know this is an old post but I was wondering if you knew whether this is capable in version 8.0? I tried browsing to the same registry path stated int the KB article but I don’t see the LogDirectory string.

      Hi Tino
As far as I know this is still applicable. If I recall, the entries are not there until you create them manually.
I would try creating the entry, restart the server and fire off a job – should be quick to tell if the log location has changed.

Yes this KB does apply to Veeam BR v 8 as well. simply do as it states and create a LogDirectory String if it is not there, restart your BR server and you should instantly notice 3 files in the new log location BEFORE you have even kicked off a job.
    Svc.VeeamInstaller.txt
    Svc.VeeamNFS.txt
    Svc.VeeamTransport.txt
When you start a job this location will instantly fill up with all the normal folders and files etc.
